'A family story', Yin Kun,Yin Jun, Liu Hui, Lao Ma , Zeng Hua Rong & Lai Xiao Ping,

A group exhibition with new works by Chinese painters Lao Ma, her sons (and internationally acclaimed artists Yin Kun and Yin Jun), their cousins Zeng Hao Rong and Lai Xiao Ping and Yin Kun’s wife Liu Hui.
 
After graduating at the Sichuan Fine Arts Department of the ARBA Normal College in 1992, the Deyang born artist Yin Kun (1969) moved to Beijing. Yin Kun’s early works deal with themes like loneliness and avarice, but recent years have shown a radical change of subject. His focal point has shifted to stories and images he grew up with as a child, such as the ‘grass heroes’: courageous warriors who would fight and, of course, always win their battle. With series like China Babies and China Heroes, Kun criticizes accepted ideas of what is good and what is evil by portraying the stereotypical tall, vigorous heroes as caricatures, with dribbling childlike faces and chubby postures, painted in pastel.
  
Yin Kun was a major influence to his brother, Yin Jun. Yin Jun was born in 1974 (Deyang), but it was only until 2005 that he, like his brother, came to Beijing. Yin Jun’s figures are characterized by big, round heads, wide open mouths, with nasal mucus and teardrops flying all over the place. He implants the adult’s mind into a child’s body and expresses the human emotions by crying, a very common reaction of children. Using bold colours, influenced by cartoons, he shows the greediness and shallowness of adults in this world, constantly crying out for more.
